History of Polaris® ATV


The company Polaris® debuted in 1945. Their first invention cobbled together scrap metal to build one of the first successful snowmobiles. The other products that followed also utilized innovation and creativity to deliver quality to the consumer. They expanded their product line to offer other products and unveiled the first Polaris® ATV, known as the Trailboss, in 1985. Many identify this model as the first American-made ATV.

Soon after the release of the first Polaris® ATV, the company analyzed the ATV market and noticed opportunity. ATVs were difficult to work with, which compromised their appeal to the average consumer. People were hesitant to buy models so clunky and hard to control. 

The next Polaris® ATVs were designed to tackle these issues, offering features such as improved suspension and performance. This paved the way for plenty of innovations that are now standard technology: independent rear suspension, automatic transmission, four-wheel drives, full floorboard, large bore four-stroke engines, and more. These and other innovations helped Polaris® ATVs be widely successful and sell at high rates. In 2008, the company sold their one millionth Sportsman® ATV.

Today, Polaris® ATVs meet the needs of a wide range of audiences. Average customers enjoy taking their models out on the dirt road. But many federal programs and commercial companies also rely on Polaris® ATVs to get the job done. In fact, the company signed a contract with the U.S. Marine Corps in 2016 to supply 144 MRZR-D® ATVs. Whether for work or for play, Polaris® ATVs rise to the occasion.
